KUCHING, Jan 9: A motorcyclist and his pillion rider perished in an accident with a stationary lorry along Jalan Pelabuhan, Kuching at approximately 11.10pm last night.
In a statement today, Kuching District Police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said, preliminary investigation found that the accident occurred when the motorcycle ridden by the victims was travelling from Jalan Pending to Jalan Bako before colliding with a lorry parked at the shoulder of the road.
Both victims, local men aged 25 and 18, died on the spot.
The driver of the lorry, a local male, has been detained to assist in the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The police have urged anyone with information related to the incident to assist in the investigation by contacting Traffic Investigating Officer Inspector Muhammad Amirul Azami Ahmad Rasol at 016-8593994, or BSPTD Kuching at 082-259900, or by visiting the nearest police station.
Mohd Farhan also advised road users not to park their vehicles on the side of the road as this could endanger other road users. — DayakDaily
