KUCHING, April 4: A total of 520,647 households in all districts and divisions throughout Sarawak especially those within Covid-19 red zones will be receiving free face masks from the state government.
The two million face masks ordered by the state government from China have arrived in the state and were handed over to the State Disaster Management Committee today.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg disclosed that the committee will distribute the free face masks to the said households.
He also expressed satisfaction with the smooth implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in the state with the current situation under control.
“I am also satisfied with the food supply distribution operation which started last Sunday (April 5) that went smoothly,” he told a press conference after chairing the State Security Council Meeting here today.
“I want to thank the Armed Forces, police and volunteers who have contributed to the cause under the supervision of local leaders to ensure the distribution operations were implemented in an orderly manner especially in the rural and remote areas,” he said.
Abang Johari also recorded the state government’s appreciation to 20 corporations for donations worth RM13.86 million in total to the Sarawak Covid-19 fund to facilitate related operations and activities during the MCO period.
State Disaster Management Committee deputy chairman, who is also Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) general manager Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir were among those present at the handover of face masks. ā DayakDaily
