SRI AMAN, Oct 9: Two men were confirmed dead in a self-inflicted accident involving a cement lorry at the Sri Aman flyover today.
A spokesman for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said the two victims, 42 (the driver) and 46, died at the scene after being examined by paramedics from Sri Aman Hospital.
He said both victims were stuck in the lorry.
“The report was received at 9.14am, and a team from the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was deployed to the scene of the incident.
“Upon arrival, it was found that there had been an accident involving a cement lorry that crashed into the roadside barrier, and there were two victims trapped,” he said in a statement.
Bomba, assisted by the Pan Borneo Highway contractor using an excavator, tried to move the lorry to extricate the two victims.
“After removing the lorry, the Bomba team used rescue tools to extricate the two trapped victims.
“After the victims were extricated, a medical officer from Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) Sri Aman confirmed that both victims died,” he said.
