KUCHING, Dec 3: Two men perished in an accident involving a trailer and a heavy construction machinery, which landed on top of the trailer at Jalan Miri Bypass, Miri this evening.
According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, it received a distress call on the incident at 4.20pm and immediately dispatched a team from the Lopeng fire station to the scene.
Upon arrival, they found the heavy machinery was still on top of the trailer, while the trailer’s driver and his attendant were found motionless and pinned in their seats.
“Firefighters opened the driver’s side door to allow the Ministry of Health personnel to examine the victims. Both were confirmed dead at the scene,” it said.
The rescue team were unable to extricate the victims immediately as the machinery needed to be lifted before firefighters could safely access the vehicle interior.
A crane has been requested to assist with the removal process.
Nine firefighters, along with one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle, were deployed to the operation. – DayakDaily
