KUCHING, July 11: Two men, aged 39 and 25, tragically drowned while searching for mussels at Buntal Esplanade in Jalan Kampung Buntal here during the early hours of today.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak reported that a group of three men ventured to the beach in search of mussels, but two of them were swept away by the strong current, while the third managed to save himself.
The Petra Jaya fire station received a distress call at 12.47am today and swiftly despatched a team to the scene.
Upon arrival, the team commenced a search for the victims within a radius of approximately 100 metres from the spot where they had disappeared.
Later, the search and rescue team received information from their operation centre that the first victim had been discovered by villagers approximately 400 metres away from the initial location at 3.30am.
Subsequently, at 3.42am, the team along with the villagers, located the second victim.
Both victims were found lifeless, and their bodies were subsequently handed over to the police for further action. — DayakDaily
