BINTANGOR, Jan 30: The 10th Battalion General Operations Force (GOF) arrested two local men aged 29 and 57 suspected of carrying out illegal logging in the Tulai area on Saturday.

Its commanding officer, Superintendent Mohammad Hafiz Kadir, said 50 logs of various sizes were seized during the raid.

He added that the enforcement team confiscated a pickup truck and a lorry used to carry out the illegal activity.

“The raid resulted from public information and intelligence gathered from the team in carrying out Operation Khazanah.

“During the raid carried out at about 2.45am yesterday, they found two men unloading logs of various sizes using excavators to load the logs onto a lorry,” he said.

Hafiz said the suspects’ modus operandi was to collect logs from elsewhere.

“After that, they would load them on a lorry at midnight or early in the morning to avoid being detected by the authorities and taken to a nearby sawmill,” he said.

He added that the suspects and the seizures had been handed over to the Sarikei Forest Department for further action and investigation. — DayakDaily
