BINTULU, Nov 7: Two local men, aged 65 and 33, have been reported missing after a boat capsized in the waters off Tanjung Payung Thursday morning (Nov 6), while four Indonesian nationals were successfully rescued.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Samalaju received a distress call from the Samalaju District Police Headquarters at 8.57am regarding the incident.
An operation team led by PBK I Paul Senum was immediately dispatched to coordinate the rescue efforts.
Preliminary information revealed that four Indonesian crew members were rescued and taken to Nyabau Hospital for medical treatment, while two Malaysian nationals are still missing and believed to be trapped inside the vessel.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has identified and marked the location of the sunken vessel to assist in the joint search and rescue operation, involving the Bomba diving unit, Civil Defence Force and police, which is scheduled to begin today.
Following a coordination meeting between the police and Bomba, a control post on site will be established at Bintulu Port, where multiple agencies will work together in the search operation. — DayakDaily
