KUCHING, Jan 16: Two people were killed while another two sustained injuries in a three-vehicle collision along Jalan Puncak Borneo near Kampung Keru here early this morning.
The accident, involving a Proton Iswara, Proton Exora and a Perodua Myvi, was reported at about 5.40am, according to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
A team from the Siburan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Siburan) arrived at the scene at around 6.20am after travelling approximately 35 kilometres.
Bomba said four victims were involved in the crash, comprising two adult men and two adult women.
“Two victims, an adult man and an adult woman, were pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health (MOH) ambulance personnel,” the statement said.
According to the report, two victims were trapped inside the Perodua Myvi. Firefighters used special rescue equipment to extricate them, during which a 29-year-old woman was successfully rescued with injuries and later transported to Sarawak General Hospital by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) Siburan.
The second trapped victim, an adult man, was confirmed dead at the scene.
Another victim, the 24-year-old driver of the Proton Iswara, had managed to exit the vehicle before rescue teams arrived. He sustained laceration wounds to the mouth and a suspected closed fracture to the leg, and was taken to Sarawak General Hospital by an MOH Sentosa ambulance.
The fourth victim, a 38-year-old woman travelling in the Proton Exora, was not trapped but was pronounced dead at the scene by MOH personnel.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing. — DayakDaily
