KUCHING, Sept 25: A tragic motorcycle crash claimed the lives of a man and a woman at KM22 Jalan Bau-Lundu near Kampung Stenggang on Sept 24.
Bau District Police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the accident, which occurred around 9.55am, involved a Yamaha Y15ZR.
“The incident is believed to have happened when the rider and pillion passenger were travelling from Lundu towards Bau.
“At KM22, the rider attempted to overtake a lorry on the left, lost control, and skidded to the right side of the road before colliding with an iron roadside barrier,” he said in a statement today.
Both victims, who were locals, were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Bau Hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Authorities have also urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist with the investigation by contacting the nearest police station.
Mohd Haide urged all road users to exercise caution, particularly during uncertain weather conditions, and reminded motorists to maintain their vehicles properly and drive prudently. — DayakDaily
