LAWAS, Jan 21: Two elderly individuals were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed head on with a 10-tonne truck at Jalan Trusan near Kampung Berayong Baru today.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Lawas responded to the emergecy at 1.11pm and swiftly dispatched a team of firefighters to the scene.
According to the operation commander, the lorry was travelling towards Trusan town, while the car was en route from Kampung Long Tengoa. The collision left the car’s occupants, a 67-year-old driver and a 69-year-old passenger, trapped inside the vehicle.
Firefighters used specialised rescue tools to extricate the victims, but both were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Their remains were handed over to the police for further investigation.
The 35-year-old lorry driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by members of the public before the arrival of Bomba personnel. — DayakDaily
