SELANGAU, April 29: A 37-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman lost their lives after the 4WD vehicle they were travelling in crashed and overturned into a drain along Jalan Sibu-Bintulu of the Pan Borneo Highway yesterday evening (April 28).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) from Tatau and Selangau stations received the emergency call at 6.39pm and promptly dispatched a team of firefighters to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that two victims were still trapped underneath the overturned vehicle following the single-vehicle accident.
Another passenger, a 35-year-old man, had managed to free himself from the wreckage prior to their arrival but sustained injuries.
Firefighters successfully extricated the two trapped victims, who were subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Ministry of Health. Their remains were later handed over to the police for further action.
The operation concluded after firefighters flushed the area to clear debris and ensured the site was safe. — DayakDaily
