Two Indonesians among 12 arrested for illegal cockfighting

MIRI, April 23: Two Indonesian men were amongst 12 people arrested in Suai Niah on Monday afternoon for their alleged involvement in illegal cockfighting.

All suspects, aged between 34 to 69-years-old, including three senior citizens were detained by Miri Criminal Investigation department (CID) personnel during the 3pm raid.

Miri police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah when contacted confirming the arrests, adding the CID team also confiscated gambling paraphernalia, four live cockerels, and two dead live cockerels.

“All suspects are currently detained under police custody for questioning,” Lim said.

The suspects will be charged under Section 3(1) of the Cruelty to Animals (Prevention) Ordinance 1962 and Section 6(3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for having no valid pass to stay in Malaysia. — DayakDaily
