The first project is the construction of a new water treatment plant in Lundu, which is being carried out through an open tender process involving a total cost of around RM112 million.

The scope of the project includes the following:

  • Construction of a 20 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment plant
  • Construction of an intake station
  • Construction of administration and chemical storage buildings and a pump house
  • Installation of 1.5km of raw water pipeline
  • Installation of 4.5km of treated water grid pipeline to Simpang Biawak
  • Installation of 6km of pipeline from Simpang Biawak to Bagak Booster Pump Station

When completed in 2028, this project will improve and provide treated water supply to existing and new consumers in the Lundu–Sematan district.

Meanwhile, the second project is the Lundu–Sematan regional water supply project with an estimated construction cost of around RM144 million, which is also being implemented through a tender process.

The project’s scope includes the following:

  • Construction of four booster pump stations located at Telok Melano No.1, Telok Melano No.2, Sematan, and Opek
  • Construction of four water storage tanks in Telok Melano (four million litres capacity), Sematan (4.5 million litres), Sedaing (two million litres, and Pasir Ulu (three million litres)
  • Construction of 77km of various-sized pipelines (grid pipes sized 350mm to 800mm ND)
  • Construction of 25km of water pipelines (sized 160mm to 400mm OD)
  • Installation of communication pipelines to 1,176 houses, stretching over approximately 58.8 km

The project, which began in September this year, is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2028 and will deliver treated water supply to areas that have yet to receive it, as part of the Sarawak Water Supply Grid System Project.

To ensure a high-quality and continuous supply of treated water in the Lundu–Sematan District, JBALB Sarawak will continue to ensure that these projects are completed within the scheduled timeframe, thereby expanding water supply coverage and effectively resolving water supply issues comprehensively. — DayakDaily
