KUCHING, Sept 4: Two drug suspects, aged 53 and 34 years respectively, were arrested after drugs were found on them here on Friday.

Kuching district deputy police chief, Supt Merbin Lisa said the 53-year-old suspect was arrested outside an entertainment centre here at 12.20 am.

“A total of 158 Erimin 5 pills (51.36 grammes), 76 Ecstasy pills (35.83 grammes), 15 packets of Ketamine (30.85 grammes) with a total worth of RM9,970 were found on the first suspect,” he said in a press statement.

According to Merbin, the suspect is liable to face the death penalty under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 (upon conviction). He will be also investigated under Section 39(A) and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“The second 34-year-old suspect was arrested outside an entertainment centre in Kuching as well,” he added.

Merbin said that a total of 24 Ecstasy pills(9.58 grammes) worth RM1,440 were found on the second suspect and he will be investigated under section 39A(1) and section 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Both suspects were believed to have managed to get the drugs by ordering using mobile phone applications. After payment was made, the drugs will be placed at a certain location and the suspects will collect the drugs themselves,” he pointed out.

The 53-year-old suspect was tested negative for drugs while the 34-year-old suspect was tested positive in amphetamine. Both suspects had no criminal records.

“Cooperation between police and the public is vital in combating drug activities and the public are urged to share information to the police if any drug activities are spotted,” Merbin said. -DayakDaily
