Two business premises in Bintulu fined RM10k each for violating Covid-19 SOPs

KUCHING, Aug 5: A store selling sports clothing and equipment along with a beauty salon in Bintulu were fined RM10,000 each for violating the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

According to a report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Bintulu Divisional health officer Dr Melvin Chung Hsien Liang said during a Covid-19 SOP enforcement operation which was conducted on Tuesday (Aug 3), they found that there were still handful of people who failed to comply with the SOPs even after almost two years living under the new norm.

“A store selling sports clothing and equipment with more than 50 per cent of employees in attendance were compounded with RM10,000 under Regulation 18 of PU(A) 97/2021, Prevention And Control Of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) (Conditional Movement Control) Regulations 2021.


“Another business premise that was compounded was a beauty salon, which is not allowed to operate under the same regulation,” he said.

Apart from that, Dr Melvin added, three individuals were compounded for RM1,500 each for failing to check-in with their MySejahtera app when entering a premise.

The Covid-19 SOPs enforcement operation was conducted by Bintulu Divisional Health Office with the aim to flatten the curve of Covid-19 in the district.

During the operation, a total of 21 business premises were inspected, and five compound notices with a total amount of RM24,500, were issued. — DayakDaily
