Two barge workers die after falling into narrow 12-foot-deep shaft

SIBU, May 23: Two crew members, aged 48 and 55, were found dead after reportedly falling into a confined space inside a barge near Lorong Lanang 61.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sibu Central received the emergency call at 9.21am, prompting the immediate deployment of a team to the scene.

Upon arrival, the operation commander confirmed that the two male victims were trapped in a hole measuring approximately one foot in diameter and 12 feet deep.

Firefighters successfully recovered both victims using specialised rope rescue equipment.

They were then handed over to paramedics from the Ministry of Health, who confirmed that both men had died. — DayakDaily
