MIRI, March 27: Police believe they have solved a robbery case involving a Bulgarian woman six days ago at Jalan Brighton here with the arrest of two local men.

A 27 year-old man was picked up on Tuesday afternoon from an unnumbered house at Jalan Pujut Tanjung Batu 6, while the second suspect, 23, was detained at Jalan Pujut around 3pm today.

“During the (first) arrest, police discovered and seized a handphone believed to belong to the 25-year-old victim who is a performer with a circus company in Coco Cabana in Marina Bay,” Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said.

The victim was robbed on March 20 by two suspects armed with machetes at Jalan Brighton here around 4.40am.

“The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery,” said Lim.

On an unrelated case, Lim said confirmed that a report received by police on a recent robbery case in Tudan was false.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim has lodged a false report on the incident,” said Lim when contacted on Wednesday.

Lim later has reminded members of the public not to lodge false police reports as the offence which is framed under Section 182 of the Penal Code provides for imprisonment up to six months or a fine of RM2,000, or both. — DayakDaily
