KUCHING, Dec 7: The two five-year-old girls who went missing in Kampung Pasir Pandak yesterday (Dec 6) have been found safe.

According to a report by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the children were located by villagers near Batu Gelingan around 9am, about 1km from the initial search base, close to the beach.

“They were later transported to Sarawak General Hospital for further medical attention,” it said.

The girls had been last seen at 9am yesterday, heading to their grandmother’s house about 50 metres from their homes to play with their cousins.

At 11am, one of the girls’ father realised that both children were not at the play area. Initial searches by family members and villagers did not locate them.

A formal report was lodged with the police at 6pm, prompting a coordinated operation involving Bomba, the police, local residents and other agencies.

Search efforts focused on the girls’ homes and nearby riverbanks. The operation was temporarily suspended at 11.40pm on Dec 6 and resumed this morning before the children were located safely. – DayakDaily
