KUCHING, Sept 10: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will hold a “Berambeh Bersatu Sarawak 2019” next Monday, with party chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad scheduled to attend.
According to the organising chairperson Datuk Seri Dr Azman Samaon, the get-together on Sept 16 at Pullman Hotel Kuching, provides an opportunity for party members to enhance ties, build network and meet with the prime minister.
The political gathering, also to celebrate Malaysia Day, will be held at 2pm.
“We want to show our unity and solidarity among members of Bersatu in Sarawak and to show the support of the people here.
“We also want to show all Bersatu members in Malaysia that Bersatu Sarawak has its own strength and that we are united in ensuring the programme’s success.
“The get-together is for all Sarawakian who wants to know more about the party and to invite them to join as members of Sarawak Bersatu,” he told a press conference after the programme co-ordination meeting at the event venue, here, today.
Azman added that the gathering was also to show the essence of Bersatu’s unity and to strengthen the party in facing the next state election due in 2021.
He pointed out that Bersatu’s objective in Sarawak was to ensure the state will progress in its development, social well being, as well as taking care the needs of the people.
Azman said the party is prepared to face the coming state election and that members should not be complacent heading to the polls.
On a different note, he expressed confident that the party would meet its objective of recruiting 100,000 members by the end of the year. This was based on the results of its recruitment drives and roadshows in the state to date.
To date, the party has 50,000 registered members in Sarawak.
Azman said that at the moment the party has set up six main branches in Santubong, Kota Samarahan, Sri Aman, Saratok, Stampin and Bintulu.
Apart from Dr Mahathir, Bersatu top leadership and supreme council members, including its federal Cabinet ministers are expected to grace the event.
The prime minister is also expected to launch the “Big Bike Gerak Gempur Keahlian Bersatu” (membership drive) involving 500 bikers that will travel across Sarawak to recruit members and meeting the party’s 100,000 membership target.
The event will proceed with a closed-door meeting, to be chaired by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, with Sarawak Bersatu interim committee led by Azman. — DayakDaily
