KUCHING, Sept 14: The 4.1-kilometre double road project linking the Tun Taib Mahmud (TTM) Bridge to Bintulu Airport is now under construction and slated for completion in May 2027, revealed Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Uggah emphasised that the project is crucial to strengthening the infrastructure network in Bintulu and must be delivered on schedule.
“Discussions with contractors are ongoing to ensure smooth progress of the works, but several land issues have been identified as the main challenges,” he said during a site visit in Bintulu today.
Uggah, who is also State Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, highlighted that the Land and Survey Department has been roped in to resolve the matter swiftly to avoid delays.
“So far, the progress in resolving the land issue is still below one percent,” he disclosed.
Uggah also stressed the importance of early preparations for the coming monsoon season.
“Recently, the floods in Kanowit, Serian and Sibu showed that the weather is becoming increasingly unpredictable.
“Therefore, we will review the disaster management mechanism and identify weaknesses so that enforcement is more effective,” he explained.
On flood relief, he informed that assistance amounting to RM1,000 has been distributed to each victim.
However, for those who did not relocate to temporary evacuation centres, confirmation from the Resident’s Office was required to ensure that aid was only given to genuinely deserving groups.
“All assistance must be clearly distributed to the target group so that there is no confusion,” he stressed.
Also present during the visit were State Minister for Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming, Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee, Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) director Ir Dr Cassidy Morris, and Bintulu division resident Datu Nyurak Keti. — DayakDaily
