Trio sentenced to 12 months’ jail for stealing tires, rims

KUCHING, Jan 3: Three repeat offenders were each sentenced to 12 months in prison after pleading guilty to stealing two sets of rims with tires last year in Magistrate Court today.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi handed down the prison sentences to Nawaziz Yusup, Awang Shifa’a Awang Seba, and Mohd Saiful Safwatullah Azni, effective immediately.


All three individuals pleaded guilty under Section 379A of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code, which stipulates imprisonment for not less than one year and not more than seven years or a fine upon conviction.

The trio committed the offense at a residence in Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar at around 11.55 pm on Dec 28, 2023.

According to the brief facts of the case, the complainant discovered that two sets of rims with tires belonging to their father, stored outside their home, were missing and suspected to have been stolen.

Subsequently, the complainant filed a police report leading to the arrest of the three accused.

Investigations revealed that all three had confessed to stealing the rims with tires from the complainant’s residence.

Furthermore, details of the case exposed the trio’s past criminal records, involving drug abuse, theft, online gambling, and housebreaking.

Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin handled the prosecution, while none of the three accused were represented by legal counsel during the proceedings. — DayakDaily
