Trim trees, SMC told

Swiftlets roosting in these trees nightly, a cause for concern

SIBU, May 29: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has been requested to trim trees along Jalan Wong Nai Siong so as to stop swiftlets from roosting there.

Chairman of Sarawak Central Region Hotels Association, Johnny Wong said today that the droppings of swiftlets are causing environmental and health hazard.

“Sometimes in early March before the Movement Control Order (MCO) was enforced, I have related the matter to the council. A councillor has promised to look into it but until now nothing is being done,” he said

Wong noted that taxi drivers echoed similar views as their taxi station is just at the foot of the trees.

“Taxi drivers have been complaining of the foul smell while those traders selling bags nearby are also lamenting that they are subjected to the same smell when the wind blows to their shops,” Wong added.

He also hoped that the council would also look into the same issue involving trees in front of the Sibu Heritage Centre which is just a stone throw away from the taxi stand. – DayakDaily
