KUCHING, Oct 19: Former Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan has called on members to close ranks and unite behind the party’s new leadership as PRS celebrates its 21st anniversary this year.
Speaking at the PRS 21st Anniversary Dinner, which he chaired as organising chairperson, Snowdan said the milestone celebration was a reminder of how far the party has come since its founding on Oct 21, 2004, by the late Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing.
The dinner, held at Riverside Majestic Hotel here earlier tonight, also marked the close of the party’s 6th Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC).
“Twenty-one years ago, we began with a simple yet powerful vision, ‘Rakyat Bersatu’.
“With limited resources but immense zeal and unwavering hope, our founders set out our slogan, calling out that this party is truly a ‘Parti Kitai, Parti Rakyat’,” he said.
Recalling the party’s growth, Snowdan noted that PRS now has 11 assemblymen in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) and five Members of Parliament (MPs) within Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
“Our journey has been filled with trials and triumphs. It was not always easy, but our story is one of perseverance. Through it all, one thing remains constant: our refusal to accept defeat,” he said.
He paid tribute to past and present leaders for laying the foundation of the party and expressed appreciation to all members for their loyalty and hard work.
As PRS moves forward under new leadership, Snowdan said he is confident that with their talent and unity, they will not only overcome new challenges but also set new benchmarks for success.
“Let us pledge to continue pushing boundaries, embracing new possibilities and shaping a future that is even brighter,” he asserted.
