KUCHING, June 20: Following Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian’s “shocking” experience when he found that Sarawak was described as the ‘Land Below the Wind’ – a title that belongs to Sabah – in a travel magazine, remedial action has been taken to rectify the mistake by the magazine concerned.
Instead of ‘Escape to Sarawak: Four hotels to book in your next trip to the Land Below the Wind’, it has been changed to ‘Discover Sarawak: 4 hotels to book on your next trip to the Land of the Hornbills’.
This has led to Dr Sim congratulating the magazine ‘Going Places’ for their fast response in correcting their mistake.
“I always share with my medical trainees, if you (have) never made mistakes in life, you are not human.
“Always told my patients if a doctor told you he never had patients who have died in his operating room, he is either lying to you or he has never operated on any patients,” said Dr Sim, who is also a cardiologist, in a social media post.
Sarawak has always been known as the ‘Land of the Hornbills’ while Sabah is nicknamed ‘Land Below the Wind’.
In an article in the June edition of Malaysia Airlines’ inflight travel magazine ‘Going Places’, Sarawak was inaccurately described as the ‘Land Below the Wind’.
It was spotted by Dr Sim who commented that “It is hard to ‘segulai sejalai’ (together in unity in Iban) while Sarawakians are expected to know West Malaysia, but West Malaysians are still making mistakes when it comes to Sarawak. — DayakDaily
