KUCHING, Nov 28: The ongoing feasibility study on the proposed Trans-Borneo Railway project is also examining the possibility of integrating the railway with the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) to enhance regional connectivity.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the study is led by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, with active participation from the Sarawak’s ministry.

He informed that the first interim report was presented on Oct 30, 2025, and the comprehensive feasibility study is expected to be completed by June 2026.

“Since the commencement of the study in June 2025, two technical workshops have been conducted with counterparts from Sabah’s relevant agencies to review findings and coordinate planning.

“A preliminary railway alignment has been proposed and will be further refined as the study progresses,” he said when responding to Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap during a question-and-answer session at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Sitting today.

Dr Jerip highlighted that the study is also looking at how the Trans-Borneo Railway could connect seamlessly with KUTS, which would facilitate better accessibility within Greater Kuching and Kota Sentosa, while strengthening overall connectivity across the region.

“The integration aims to ensure seamless connections between Trans-Borneo Railway services and local public transport,” he explained. — DayakDaily
