MIRI, Oct 23: The charred remains of an 11-year-old girl was found inside a home which was destroyed by fire at Kampung Pulau Melayu this morning.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre received a call at 4.17am that a house at Jalan Peninsular was on fire.
“A team of 10 firefighters led by PBK II Nasir Razali from Lopeng fire station were despatched to the scene. However they faced difficulties in obtaining water as there was no fire hydrants near by, prompting them to obtain water from other sources to put the fire out.
“Initially, the family members did not report any missing person. After the fire was fully controlled and firefighters were conducting an ‘overhaul’, they found the charred remains of Siti Nur Hidayah Zamri,” commanding officer PKPgB Terry Robson said.
Siti Nur Hidayah was staying with her grandfather Puni Buda, 66, who managed to escape unharmed.
Her parents Zamri Bujang, 36 and Hamidah Puni, 34, were staying in another house together with her three other siblings about 30 feet away.
The cause of fire is still under investigation. — DayakDaily
