KUCHING, July 12: The two remaining roundabouts at the Samarahan-Kuching Expressway will be replaced with traffic lights by October, 2023.
This is according to Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos who said that both MPKS and the residents of Samarahan were pleased to hear the good news.
“This was disclosed by JKR (Sarawak Works Department) at a special briefing yesterday (July 11), (which was) called and chaired by the Minister of Transport Sarawak (Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin) and attended by officials of MPKS and Sarawak Metro of ART (Autonomous Rapid Transit),” said Minos in a statement today.
He said it came as good news to the residents of Samarahan because at long last, their worries for daily traffic jams will be eased.
“They (the residents of Samarahan) have been waiting for the project completion since 2017, when the Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) announced and approved it on MPKS anniversary dinner on Nov 11 that year.
“With the ART project now ongoing, when completed, life will surely be made even easier and better for all in Samarahan. This is definitely a cause for joy and jubilation,” said Minos.
He said with the many public and private projects in progress in Samarahan, it is wise for the government to list solving the area’s daily traffic jam as a priority.
“Doing so will bring about a second wave of rapid development in Samarahan, especially in residential housing and government public projects,” said Minos. — DayakDaily
