KUCHING, Feb 14: Traffic light projects at five roundabouts between Kota Samarahan and Stutong are proceeding smoothly despite the Chinese New Year (CNY) holidays.
Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos is pleased with the projects’ progress and hoped that they will be completed according to schedule.
“The serious and massive traffic jam problems in Kota Samarahan at peak hours on working days must be solved. The problems have been around for far too long, creating stress and tension on the commuters.
“These (projects) are a kind of “life-saver” for Samarahan,” he said in a statement today.
Minos believed that letting the said traffic problems continue will impede the division’s development and progress.
He noted that the government is also upgrading and improving Jalan Mohd Musa in Kota Samarahan, from 9th Mile Jalan Kuching-Serian to the roundabout in Kota Samarahan near Intan and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).
He added the government will also construct a new expressway from the Samarahan bridge towards Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) with a bridge across the big Sarawak river towards the conference centre.
He asserted that once all the projects are completed by 2024, the big traffic problems in Samarahan and the biggest “headache” of the council will be cured. — DayakDaily
