KUCHING, April 12: A traditional river procession along the Batang Rajang emerged as a defining highlight of the wedding ceremony of Works Minister and Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi’s daughter, Lilian Binjan Nanta, and Jared Jimbau Chabu, held recently in Kapit.
The celebration was conducted in a vibrant setting steeped in Iban Dayak customs and traditions, reflecting the cultural identity and heritage of the community, with customary practices carefully observed throughout the solemnisation.

According to a Facebook post, one of the most significant moments of the ceremony was the sampan procession along the Batang Rajang River where a line of boats moved in coordinated harmony symbolising unity, continuity of tradition and deep respect for ancestral customs.
Set against the scenic backdrop of Kapit, the river procession underscored the enduring importance of waterways in Iban ceremonial life, while adding a distinctive cultural dimension to the wedding celebration.

In the evening, the reception was held in a warm and harmonious atmosphere, attended by family members, friends, relatives and members of the Kapit community who gathered to share in the joyous occasion.
“We would like to express our deepest appreciation to all guests and contributors who made the celebration a success, as the support, presence and goodwill extended throughout the event made the occasion more meaningful and memorable,” he said.
The ceremony was described as both a significant family milestone and a reflection of the continued preservation and strength of Iban Dayak cultural traditions in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
