KUCHING, Nov 5: A trader was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court after admitting to assaulting an acquaintance with a wooden stick.
He allegedly attacked the victim out of suspicion that the acquaintance had shared details about his personal life.
Shahdur Rahman, 25, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan. The offense was classified under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which deals with causing injury with a weapon capable of endangering life.
According to the charge, Shahdur was accused of intentionally causing harm to a 23-year-old male acquaintance by using a wooden stick as a weapon, which could inflict serious injury or even be lethal.
The assault took place at a shopping mall on Jalan Padungan around 3.40am on Oct 31.
If convicted, the offense under Section 324 carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison, a fine, whipping, or any combination of these penalties.
The case facts revealed that on the day of the incident, the victim was with a friend when Shahdur, accompanied by several other individuals, approached them.
Without warning, Shahdur allegedly attacked the victim, striking him on the left forehead and ear.
The assault left the victim with a bleeding forehead and pain in his left ear.
The victim subsequently filed a police report, leading to further investigation and Shahdurās eventual arrest.
The investigation confirmed Shahdurās intent to harm the victim with a wooden stick, and medical reports corroborated the injuries sustained by the victim.
The case was prosecuted by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin. Shahdur was unrepresented by legal counsel. ā DayakDaily
