KUCHING, Oct 12: The abrupt suspension of MYAirline Sdn Bhd services, which has affected thousands of travellers earlier today is an “irresponsible act”, opined Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts said the least the company should do is provide an early indication that their services will be terminated so as not to cause inconvenience for travellers.

“It is very irresponsible of MYAirline and those who make that kind of decision (to do so).

“I hope that the government, especially the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) will take action and not let this thing be repeated,” he told reporters when met at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) building today.

Abdul Karim added that air transportation is a necessity these days, especially for those from Sarawak and Sabah.

“It is because we do not have any other means (of transportation when travelling to and from the State),” he said.

Earlier today, low-cost carrier MYAirline Sdn Bhd announced the suspension of its operations and flights effective Oct 12, citing “significant financial pressures”. — DayakDaily
