KUCHING, March 12: A proposal has been put forward for a unified parking payment system across Sarawak to address the inconvenience faced by motorists who currently have to use different parking applications in different cities.
Sarawak Transport Minister Lee Kim Shin said drivers travelling between cities often need to download or switch between multiple parking platforms, which can be confusing and inconvenient.
“In the future, we should aim for a system where one parking platform can be used across Sarawak. This will make things much easier for the public,” he reportedly said when chairing the Sarawak Public Transport Committee (SPTC) Meeting No.1/2026 yesterday (March 11).
During the meeting, committee members also received a presentation on the Smart Parking System initiative known as “Pay & Go Digitalise Council Parking”, presented by the Sarawak Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG).
The meeting also reviewed ongoing transport initiatives and updates on projects approved under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), including aviation development programmes and the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) construction phase traffic management plan.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Transport (Aviation and Road) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil and Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Marine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep. — DayakDaily
