Too fast, too modified: Kuching cops seize 31 motorcycles in road hooligan ops

KUCHING, Dec 21: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have seized 31 motorcycles during a road hooligan operation conducted along Jalan Tabuan, Jalan Central Timur and Jalan Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui here.

In a statement today, Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation, carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Kuching District Police Headquarters, took place from 9.30pm on Saturday (Dec 20) until 4am today.

He said the operation involved one senior officer and 27 personnel, and was aimed at curbing illegal road racing and ensuring road users comply with traffic laws and regulations.

“During the operation, 31 motorcycles were detained under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 after they were found to have been modified from their original structure and for further inspection,” he said in the statement.

Throughout the operation, a total of 82 individuals and 75 motorcycles were inspected, with 151 police traffic summonses issued for various traffic offences.

Alexson added that throughout the year, police arrested 26 individuals suspected of committing offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“In the same period, 298 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 and 2,622 police summonses were issued for various traffic offences,” he said.

He stressed that such operations would continue to be carried out from time to time.

Road users, particularly motorcyclists, were advised to ride responsibly, remain cautious on the road, refrain from engaging in road hooligan activities and avoid modifying the original structure of their vehicles. — DayakDaily
