LUNDU, June 4: A three-year-old toddler and an elderly woman suffered burns as they escaped a house fire at Kampung Sileng Melayu this afternoon.
The toddler was blistered on her face and left arm while the elderly woman who is in her 70s was blistered on her face and both hands and legs as they tried to save themselves from the fire.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement, there were seven occupants in the semi-permanent double-storey house when the fire broke out at 12.15pm on the upper floor of the house.
The remaining occupants ā a second elderly woman and six other young children ā managed to get out of the house safely.
Bomba revealed the house is estimated to be 80 per cent damaged and the cause of fire is under investigation.
Meanwhile, Tanjong Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu immediately despatched aid to the victims upon learning of the fire.
According to her Tanjong Datu service centre Facebook page, the donation was delivered by her team on her behalf to one of the victims, Mahdar Che Ali.
Jamilah has also pledged and arranged for her service centre to repair the house under the Projek Baikpulih Rumah Miskin Sarawak (PPRMS) initiative. ā DayakDaily
