KUCHING, Oct 8: The Bee Speech Bilingual Toastmasters Club Kuching has been urged to organise a larger public speaking workshop in its next programme so more people can benefit from training aimed at strengthening communication, public speaking and leadership abilities.
Club president councillor Nicholas Wung said the positive response to the club’s recent workshop showed the value of providing more opportunities for people to develop their confidence and communication skills.
The public speaking training workshop, organised by the club, which is affiliated with the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), was held on Oct 4 at the SUPP headquarters and attracted 10 participants.
In a media release, Wung encouraged participants to join Toastmasters International and continue learning and practising to further develop their communication, public speaking and leadership abilities.
He also expressed hope that the club could organise a second workshop on a larger scale in the near future, allowing more people to benefit from the programme and continue growing in their communication and leadership journey.
The workshop featured three experienced Toastmasters International trainers, including international director Hani N.Z. Zaini, DTM; Division D director of District 87 Liu San Liang, DTM; and veteran District 67 member Dr Mark Han.
Through a combination of theory sessions, interactive discussions and hands-on exercises, the workshop provided participants with practical guidance on improving their speaking and presentation skills.
Topics covered included body language, vocal variety, powerful language, giving and receiving feedback, evaluation techniques, speech preparation, choosing a topic and clarifying the purpose of a speech.
The trainers also drew on their extensive Toastmasters experience and real-life examples to guide participants through practical exercises and discussions, covering areas ranging from speaking techniques and language expression to feedback, evaluation and speech preparation.
Wung thanked the three trainers for sharing their knowledge, experience and insights with the participants.
He also expressed appreciation to the staff involved in organising the programme and to the participants for their enthusiasm and courage in speaking up during the workshop.
He said their active participation contributed to making the programme a meaningful and rewarding learning experience. — DayakDaily
