SIBU, Dec 9: Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing will bring up the proposed construction of a new home for autistic children worth RM3.7 million to the Premier of Sarawak.

Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman, noted that the new building project will expand the Sibu Autistic Association’s (SAA) current premises so that more children will have the opportunities to get their proper treatment and training as soon as possible.

“I would like to thank the SAA president Davis Ngu for his tireless effort to support children’s causes.

“Regarding the new building project that he (Ngu) mentioned, I will communicate with Sarawak Planning Authority (SPA) and also the Premier of Sarawak (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg),” he said when officiating the SAA Graduation Dinner-cum-Parents Gathering in Sibu earlier tonight.

Earlier, Ngu in his speech, said the SAA’s current premise can only accommodate about 50 kids at one time, which is not enough due to the high demand in Sibu.

“By the grace from the Board of Management of Agape Centre, we have launched the new building project which is just next to the current premises. With this new building, we may accommodate around 200 kids at one time.

“We have submitted the application to SPA for approval since early of this year and we really want to seek YB Dato Sri’s favour in helping us to discuss with our YAB Premier for speedy approval. To date, we have only managed to raise RM200,000,” he stated.

At the event, Tiong announced a RM50,000 contribution to the association. — DayakDaily
