Tiong: Mawan welcomed to help PDP win in Saratok if he wants

Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing

KUCHING, April 24: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has welcomed Saratok’s incumbent Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom to help out in the coming 14th General Election (GE14).

“If he (Mawan) is willing to help us deliver the seat, he is most welcome to do so,” Tiong said, after a press conference by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who announced the state Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate list at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here today.

Tiong repeated the fact that Saratok is traditionally SPDP’s (Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party, now known as PDP) to contest.

“The previous candidate (Mawan) for Saratok is from SPDP. He left to form Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (TERAS), and then jumped to PBB. We didn’t even know he joined PBB until recently,” Tiong said.

As for the state seat of Pakan, Tiong also said it originally belonged to SPDP to contest, now PDP.

“Let’s not talk about Pakan for now. We shall concentrate on this GE14 first. Out of these four seats, we will do our best to deliver them all for BN. As our leaders have said, we must have the confidence to deliver the four seats,” Tiong said when questioned.

Meanwhile, he also expressed his gratitude to both state and federal BN chairmen Abang Johari and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak respectively for upholding the consensus and spirit of BN by working together as a team.

Tiong was happy that PDP’s nominee for Saratok, Jagah @ Subeng Mula was accepted.

Subeng will replace incumbent Mawan.

“I would like to thank Abang Johari and Prime Minister Najib for this,” Tiong said, before leaving the venue. — DayakDaily
