KUCHING, June 23: Jalan Tun Razak in Bintulu has been expanded by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) from two lane to four lanes as a short-term solution.

According to a statement by Dudong assemblyman Dato Sri Tiong King Sing today, the four lanes are expected to be fully open for use on Wednesday, June 26.

The road expansion is due to a sudden increase in traffic, which has caused heavy congestion during peak hours.

“Many people have complained that they needed to wait for several traffic light cycles to pass through smoothly,” said Tiong.

He believed that once all four lanes are open to road users, it would help alleviate traffic volume, ease congestion during peak hours, and significantly reduce waiting times at traffic lights.

Tiong, who is also the Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture applauded JKR, contractors, and other involved parties for their prompt action and efforts in expanding the road and allowing the traffic issues to be properly resolved. — DayakDaily
