Tiong: Attaining Sarawak independence not as simple as a slogan

Dato Sri Tiong King Sing

KUCHING, Dec 13: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates for N52 Dudong Dato Sri Tiong King Sing says Parti Bumi Kenyalang’s (PBK) calls for Sarawak’s secession from the Federation of Malaysia is not as simple as a slogan.

“I also hope for Sarawak to be independent but it must be also pursued by the rule of law,” said Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP.

According to him, it must be understood that Sarawak exists as part of three distinct entities to constitute Malaysia.

Tiong said the Sarawak government is also actively seeking the decentralisation of the rights and interests that were originally enshrined for Sarawak under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“If a political party is truly capable of bringing changes for the people, it should come up with practical policies before the election and conceive a blueprint for the future of Sarawak, instead of coming up with empty slogans to deceive the upcoming generation for votes,” he said in a statement today.

The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president also pointed out that there is need to learn from the past mistakes, citing Pakatan Harapan (PH) as an example.

“After the change of federal government, many things were not as simple as they imagined them would be.

“In the end, it was the people who were shocked, misled, and ended up miserable,” he added. — DayakDaily
