Ting: Dr Sim’s appointment as DCM shows Abang Jo’s commitment to Chinese community

MIRI, Jan 1: The appointment of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Dato Sri Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian as Deputy Chief Minister is a show of commitment by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to have the Chinese community adequately represented in his new Cabinet, said party secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.

“It is truly a great honour for our Party to regain back the Deputy Chief Minister post after so many years. I would like to convey our sincerest gratitude to the Chief Minister,” Ting said in a statement yesterday.

“In addition, our party vice president Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin continues to serve as Minister for Transport, our treasurer Datuk Francis Harden Hollis is the Assistant Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development II (Talent Development) and myself as Assistant Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism),” he added.

Ting has also expressed his gratitude for the trust placed by the Chief Minister in appointing him as Assistant Minister.

“I promise to do my best to assist Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts in supporting our tourism industry and making Sarawak a leading destination for eco-tourism and business events in ASEAN Region,” he pointed out.

Ting added, that the party is also grateful for the new appointment of the party’s Central Youth Chairman Michael Tiang as Assistant Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government II (Local Government).

“We are humbled and truly thankful to all the voters and fellow Sarawakians for all your support and trust in us to win 13Ā  seats in the 12th Sarawak Election. We will shoulder the hopes of the people entrusted to us and to speak up in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly for the people of Sarawak,” he said.

“Our party also agrees with the proposal by the Chief Minister to evaluate and analyse the performance and effectiveness of the new State Cabinet during the first quarter of 2022 to continuously improve the effectiveness of the Cabinet and its service to the people,” he said.

“Our party and other component Parties of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will strive hard to fulfill the election promises, bring development and safeguard the wellbeing of the people,” Ting asserted. ā€” DayakDaily
