KUCHING, Dec 1: Sarawak’s timber industry’s export value reached RM1.87 billion as of the third quarter of 2025, and at the same time, the State continues its effort to promote the use of engineered wood or synthetic timber.
Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said logs contributed a value of RM310 million, an increase of three per cent compared to RM301 million for the same period in 2024, while wood pellet exports also increased by 60 per cent with a value of RM97 million compared to RM60 million for the same period.
“Japan remains the main importer with a value of RM1.17 billion followed by India with RM299 million, Middle Eastern countries with RM105 million, Taiwan with RM77 million and the Philippines with RM65 million,” he said when delivering the ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today
In an effort to promote the use of engineered wood such as laminated veneer lumber, glulam and cross laminated timber in Sarawak, he highlighted that the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (PUSAKA) and University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding earlier this year to strengthen strategic collaboration in research and technological innovation related to engineered wood. – DayakDaily
