KUCHING, Oct 23: Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds are expected across several divisions in Sarawak this afternoon, with a thunderstorm warning in effect until 8pm today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the advisory, issued at 4.15pm, covers Kuching, Samarahan, Betong (Pusa, Betong and Kabong), Sibu (Selangau), Mukah, Kapit (Kapit and Belaga), Bintulu, Miri (Beluru, Telang Usan and Marudi) and Limbang.
MetMalaysia explained that the alert is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour, which are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert that remains valid for no more than six hours per issuance. —DayakDaily
