KUCHING, Feb 27: Members of the now-defunct Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) from three villages, namely Kampung Munggu Demam, Kampung Kesindu Jaya and Kampung Lemujong, have applied to join Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Balai Ringin en bloc.

The respective village headmen, together with their members, submitted their application forms during a meet-the-people session at Rh Lipeh Mawi in Kampung Munggu Demam over the weekend. The forms were handed over to N.30 Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

In pledging their unwavering and unconditional support to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), they said they no longer wished to be swayed by what they described as unreliable and weak opposition leaders who rely on political rhetoric but have failed to bring meaningful improvements to rural livelihoods, particularly in terms of physical infrastructure development.

Responding to their applications, Snowdan, who is also Deputy Minister of Creative Industry and Performing Arts, said it is never too late for them to “come to their senses”, given that GPS has consistently proven itself to be a people- and rural-centric government focused on uplifting livelihoods across Sarawak.

“More development is in the pipeline, including the RM260 million treated water supply project being implemented in two phases, with construction progressing simultaneously and currently ahead of schedule.

“The laying of main pipes from the Slabi Water Treatment Plant in Serian is now clearly visible along the Pan Borneo Highway and surrounding trunk roads,” he said in a statement today.

On a related note, Snowdan urged every Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in village administration.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining accurate databases, including population headcounts, number of graduates, school-going children, age groups, vulnerable groups such as the elderly and single mothers, as well as records of financial and in-kind assistance received.

He also called for proper documentation of projects and aid received under initiatives such as the Rural Transformation Project (RTP), Minor Rural Project (MRP), scholarships, and other forms of assistance from government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

During the event, Snowdan announced an allocation of RM15,000 under the MRP for JKKK Kampung Munggu Demam, and RM10,000 each for JKKK Kampung Lemujong and JKKK Kampung Kesindu Jaya to support their activities.

Also present were Balai Ringin Sub-District SAO Mohd Adam Abdullah, chieftains Penghulu Anthony Lama and Penghulu Jeli Lebat as well as councillors and local residents. — DayakDaily
