Three sudden deaths shake Kuching within 24 hours, police confirm no foul play

KUCHING, Sept 11: The Kuching District Police have confirmed three separate sudden death cases reported across the city over the past 24 hours, stressing that preliminary investigations have found no criminal elements involved.

According to Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the first incident occurred on Sept 10 at around 1.34pm in front of a supermarket, Jalan Depo, opposite SMK Semerah Padi, where a 46-year-old local man collapsed.

“Police from Gita Police Station rushed to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead by medical personnel from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), and his body was subsequently sent to the Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination,” he said in a statement today.

Later the same day at around 8.15pm, another case was reported at a workers’ quarters in Lorong Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim, Padungan, where an Indonesian man in his 30s was found unconscious.

“Police from Padungan Police Station attended the scene, and the man was confirmed dead. His body was sent to the Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination,” he disclosed.

The third case occurred at approximately 11.24pm, which was reported by a member of the public who detected foul odor coming from a rented room in Metrocity.

Alexson said police arrived to find a local man in his 70s, whose body was in a decomposed state.

“The deceased was taken to the Forensic Department of SGH for further investigation.

Alexson emphasised that all three incidents are being treated as sudden deaths and that there is no indication of foul play.

He also urged the public not to make any speculation regarding these incidents in order to respect the sensitivity of the families affected.
