KUCHING, Nov 11: Three new patrol vessels for the Sarawak Coast Guard are on track to be completed two months ahead of schedule, with overall progress now at 49 per cent.

The vessels, being constructed under the supervision of the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak for the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) under the Premier’s Department, are now expected to be ready by June 2026, instead of the original August deadline.

JKR director Ir Dr Cassidy Morris, who recently visited the construction site, praised the local contractors for maintaining high performance and delivering quality work that meets international standards.

“I am proud of the capability shown by our local shipbuilders. These vessels are not only built to international quality standards but also highlight Sarawak’s growing expertise in maritime engineering,” he said in a post shared on JKR Sarawak social media following a visit last Saturday (Nov 8).

Cassidy added that the timely delivery of these vessels would further enhance the operational readiness and enforcement capacity of the Sarawak Coast Guard in safeguarding the State’s coastal waters.

For the record, JKR Sarawak previously delivered six patrol vessels for the same unit, with three completed in November 2022 and another three in July 2023. — DayakDaily
