KUCHING, March 12: Allocating only three additional seats to Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) would be too small a share if rumours surrounding the upcoming electoral delineation prove true, says its Supreme Council member Andy Lawrence.
Lawrence said the number does not reflect the party’s strong and consistent electoral performance over the years.
“Since its formation in 2003, PRS has demonstrated remarkable electoral strength, achieving a 100 per cent winning record in both the 2016 Sarawak state election and the 2021 Sarawak state election by securing every seat it contested,” he said in a statement today.
He added that historically, PRS has maintained one of the highest electoral success rates among political parties in Sarawak, reflecting deep grassroots support, particularly within the Dayak heartland.
“Based on this track record, it is only reasonable that PRS should be considered for more than three seats,” he added.
He was referring to a purported leaked document detailing the proposed creation and distribution of 17 new Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) seats.
The document also outlines a proposed allocation of the new seats among Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties. Under the proposal, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) would receive 10 seats, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) three, PRS three, and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) one. – DayakDaily
