Three more schools needed in Sibu Jaya to meet demand

SIBU, Feb 3: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong is urging the Ministry of Education (MoE) to set up three more schools in Sibu Jaya to cater to the demands of the growing local population.

Wong said the existing schools namely SJK (C) Tian Hua, SK Sibu Jaya and SMK Sibu Jaya were crowded, with 900, 1,500 and 2,800 students respectively.

“Three new schools will be able to accommodate the 35,000 fast-growing population in Sibu Jaya,” he opined when speaking as a guest-of-honour at a Chinese New Year gathering by the Sibu Jaya Neighborhood Watch (KRT) at the Sibu Jaya Community Association office here last night.


Dudong assemblyman Datuk Tiong Thai King was also present as a guest-of-honor.

Meanwhile, Wong urged residents to prioritise cleanliness and clean surroundings in view of the ongoing Wuhan novel-coronavirus outbreak.

He noted that there are 17 flats in Sibu Jaya, and proposed a committee be set up for every two to three flats to faclitiate problem-solving and improvement to residents’ living environment.

He also revealed that SUPP Dudong would establish a service centre in Sibu Jaya soon. — DayakDaily
