KUCHING, Oct 7: Partial lane closures will begin tonight along Jalan Tun Jugah to make way for construction of the elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) guideway, with motorists warned to expect slower traffic and possible congestion.
Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd said the closures will take effect from 11pm tonight (Oct 7) and remain in place for about three months to facilitate bored piling and other construction activities.
“The bored piling works will form part of the construction of the piers for the elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) guideway, alongside other related works in the area.
“The elevated ART guideway in the area will comprise piers, pier caps and guideway beams and will directly connect the ART stations along Jalan Tun Jugah, namely Tun Jugah station (SR08) and Upland station (SR09), as part of the Red Line of the KUTS,” it said in a statement today.
The slip road from Jalan Tun Jugah towards Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho, as well as the slip road from Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho towards Jalan Tun Jugah, will be narrowed to one lane.
Meanwhile, one lane at the traffic lights junction at Jalan Song, before vehicles turn right towards Jalan Tun Jugah, will also be closed.
Despite the restrictions, at least one lane will remain open at the affected sections, allowing vehicles from Jalan Song and Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho to continue towards Jalan Tun Jugah and the city centre.
Sarawak Metro advised motorists to plan their routes accordingly and use alternative roads where possible, particularly during peak hours.
Sarawak Metro will continue monitoring the situation and issue public updates on any changes to road diversions, lane closures and other traffic measures to minimise disruption.
