KUCHING, March 17: Motorists heading toward Pulau Bruit, Daro and Matu are being warned that waiting time at the Batang Paloh ferry crossing could reach up to six hours as traffic is expected to surge from Sibu, Tanjung Manis, and Sarikei.
The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak issued the notice in anticipation of increased road use during the upcoming school holidays and Hari Raya Aidilfitri period from March 18 to 29, 2026.
According to JKR, the heavy traffic will primarily affect routes heading to Pulau Bruit, Daro, and Matu.
To ease congestion, three ferries will be deployed, operating from 6am to 12 midnight daily throughout the period.

“Even with additional ferry services, motorists are strongly advised to plan their journeys in advance to avoid long delays,” the department said.
Travellers are encouraged to consider alternative routes where possible to reduce delays and improve travel safety during the busy holiday period. — DayakDaily
