KUCHING, Jan 23: A 39-year-old unemployed man was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today after admitting to threatening to kill his mother and set their family home on fire in an incident at Taman Malihah last weekend.
The accused, identified as Noor, pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali.
He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, following threats made against his 63-year-old mother at their residence at about 9pm on January 18.
Court proceedings revealed that the incident stemmed from a dispute after the victim was unable to comply with the accused’s request for RM50. The situation escalated later that evening when the accused attempted to start his motorcycle but failed due to a battery problem.
Frustrated by the failure, he became aggressive, punching a refrigerator and allegedly uttering threats to kill family members and burn down the house.
A police report was lodged shortly after the incident, leading to the accused’s arrest on the same day.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly, while the accused was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
